Since 2012, Advanced Firearms Training, now know as Carson Guns & Training has been offering a variety of firearm training courses for all levels. Whether you are a novice or a professional, our National Rifle Association (NRA) & U.S. Concealed Carry Association  (USCCA) certified instructors will guide you through your chosen class.

Carson Guns Handgun Orientation (3 hours total)

(Day 1) CG Handgun Orientation Course

Day 1
Held in the classroom. Includes practice on the High-Defintion Shooting Simulator.
There will be no live ammunition used.
Topics Covered:
* Universal Rules for safe gun handling
* Pistol and Revolver Parts
* Ammunition components and types
* How to load/unload a revolver and a semi-auto pistol
* The Fundamentals of Shooting (aiming, stance, grip, trigger control, breath control and follow-through)
* Shooting Practice on High-Def Simulator

(Day 2) CG Handgun Orientation Course

Day 2
Live-fire practice on the Shooting Range
This session will begin with a review of safety rules and an overview of range etiquette. Then, working
with an instructor one-to-one, students will practice what they have learned in the classroom:
* Loading and Unloading revolvers and semi-auto pistols
* The Fundamentals of Shooting (aiming, stance, grip, trigger control, breath control and follow-through).
* Safe gun handling

Guns and ammunition will be supplied. Students will have an opportunity to shoot multiple guns in different calibers (.22, .380 and 9mm). The cost for this 2 day course is $150.00. (Students are required to provide their own eye and ear protection for the live-fire practice on Day 2.)

Nevada Armed Guard Training (NV P.I.L.B.)

In Nevada, Armed Security Guards are regulated be the Nevada Private Investigators Licensing Board. (Click here to be taken their website)

To become an Armed Security Guard in the State of Nevada you must be currently employed with a security company.  You must also be outside your provisional employment time period. Once these two things are completed your employer can (at their discression) give you a V.E.A.S. form. You can then contact a C.F.I. to get scheduled for a class. 

Security Companies and Guards are regulated by NRS 648 and NAC 648

NRA Firearm Safety Course

NRA Firearm Safety Course

This four-hour course for safe gun handling is conducted in the classroom only.

In this course, students will be taught the following:

  • The NRA’s three rules for safe gun handling
  • Primary causes of firearms accidents
  • Firearm parts
  • How to unload certain action types
  • Ammunition components
  • Cleaning
  • Care
  • Safe storage of firearms in the home
  • Benefits of becoming an active participant in the shooting sports

Upon course completion, students will receive the NRA Home Firearm Safety handbook, the NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, and the Basic Firearm Training Program brochure.

NRA Range Safety Officer (RSO) Course

NRA Range Safety Officer (RSO) Course

This course is nine hours long and is conducted in both the classroom and at a shooting facility.

RSO candidates will learn the following:

  • Roles and responsibilities of an RSO
  • Range Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Range inspection
  • Range rules
  • Range briefings
  • Emergency procedures
  • Firearm stoppages and malfunctions

At the end of the session, each RSO candidate will receive an RSO student study guide, a Basic Firearm Training Program Brochure, an NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, and an instructor application/course evaluation form.

NRA Pistol Marksmanship Simulator Training

NRA Pistol Marksmanship Simulator Training

This course equips you with the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to learn basic pistol marksmanship through the use of a virtual training system.

Students will learn firearm safety using a simulated pistol with a resetting trigger on a 13-inch high-definition video screen that will show shot placement. Students will also learn the fundamentals of sight alignment, trigger control, grip, and breath control.

Upon completion of the course, students are awarded an NRA participation certificate. Students may attend this course simply to improve their marksmanship skills, or they may also decide to follow up by taking the full-length Basic Pistol Course with live fire.

NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course Instructor Lead Course

This course is nine hours long that includes both classroom and range time learning to shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. This course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely.

Students of this course will learn the following:

  • NRA’s rules for safe gun handling
  • Pistol parts and operation
  • Ammunition
  • Shooting fundamentals
  • Range rules
  • Shooting from the bench rest position
  • Two-handed standing positions
  • Cleaning the pistol
  • Continued opportunities for skill development

This course is a prerequisite to taking the NRA Pistol Instructor Course.

NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home Course

This is an eight-hour course where students should expect to shoot approximately 100 rounds of ammunition. This course will tackle basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a handgun to protect yourself and your family.

Students will also be given information on the law-abiding individual’s right to self-defense as well as the following:

  • Basic defensive shooting skills
  • Strategies for home safety and for responding to a violent confrontation
  • Firearms and the law
  • How to choose a handgun for self-defense
  • Continued opportunities for skill development

Students of this course will receive the NRA guide to the basics of personal protection in the home handbook, the NRA gun safety rules brochure, the Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, and a course completion certificate.

NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home Course

Who Can Take This Course

The NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home course is for law-abiding adult citizens, as defined by applicable federal, state, or local law, and experienced shooters (shooters able to show mastery of the basic skills of safe gun handling, shooting a group, zeroing the firearm, and cleaning the firearm).

This is to maximize what can be learned from this course. Proof of shooting experience can be one of the following: NRA Basic Pistol Course Certificate, NRA FIRST Steps Course Certificate, NRA Pistol Competitive Shooting Qualification card, military DD 214 with pistol qualification, or passing the Pre-Course Assessment.

NRA Basic Personal Protection Outside The Home Course

The course teaches students the knowledge, skills, and attitude needed to equip them with the skills needed to survive serious adversity through a comprehensive and intensive in approach.

From a review of safe firearms handling and proper mindset to presentation from concealment and multiple shooting positions, this course contains the essential skills and techniques needed to prevail in a life-threatening situation.

The NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home is divided into two levels which are as follows:

Basic

Level one is a nine-hour course and offers the essential knowledge and skills that must be mastered in order to carry, store, and use a firearm safely and effectively for personal protection outside the home.

After the classroom portion, students should expect to spend several hours on the range and shoot approximately 100 rounds of ammunition during level one.

Advanced

Upon completion of level one, students may choose to attend level two, which is an additional five hours of range training and teaches advanced shooting skills.

It involves approximately 115 rounds of ammunition. However, the ammunition requirements are minimum and may be exceeded.

Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection Outside the Home handbook, the NRA gun safety rules brochure, and the appropriate course completion certificates(s), NRA basic personal protection outside the home (identifies strong-side hip holster or purse use) certificate and NRA Advanced Personal Protection Outside The Home certificate.

Who Can Take This Course

The NRA Basics of Personal Protection Outside The Home is for adult individuals who are not disqualified from possessing a firearm as defined by applicable federal, state, or local law and are of good repute and possess defensive pistol skills presented in the NRA Basics of Personal Protection In The Home Course.

Participants must also understand the basic legal concepts relating to the use of firearms in self-defense and must know and observe not only general gun safety rules but also those safety principles that are specific to defensive situations.

Prospective participants can demonstrate that they have the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes by producing an NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home Course Certificate or by passing the pre-course evaluation.

Note: The Lesson III of the Personal Protection In and Outside The Home courses Firearms and the Law and Legal Aspects of Self-Defense is conducted by an attorney licensed to practice law within the state in which this course is given and who is familiar with this area of the law, a Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) who possesses an intermediate or higher Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certificate granted within the state, or an individual currently certified to instruct in this area of the law by the state in which this course is presented. This course includes night shooting – low light and almost no light (aka moonlight shooting).

NRA Basic Rifle Shooting Course

NRA Basic Rifle Shooting Course

This course is approximately 8.5 hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot rifles. This course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to safely use a rifle in a target shooting setting.

Students of this course will master the following:

  • NRA’s rules for safe gun handling
  • Rifle parts and operation
  • Ammunition
  • Shooting fundamentals
  • Range rules
  • Shooting from the bench rest, prone, sitting, standing, and kneeling positions
  • Cleaning
  • Continued opportunities for skill development

Students will receive the Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook, NRA gun safety rules brochure, Winchester/NRA marksmanship qualification booklet, take a Basics of Rifle Shooting Student Examination, and receive a course completion certificate.

NRA Basic Shotgun Shooting Course

NRA Basic Shotgun Shooting Course

This course is at approximately 10.5 hours long and includes classroom and range time learning how to shoot shotguns at moving targets. This course teaches basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for safe and proper shotgun use when shooting a moving target.

This course will equip students with knowledge on:

  • NRA’s rules for safe gun handling
  • Shotgun parts and operation
  • Shotgun shell components
  • Shotgun shell malfunctions
  • Shooting fundamentals
  • Range rules
  • Shooting straight away and angled targets
  • Cleaning
  • Continued opportunities for skill development

Students will receive the Basics of Shotgun Shooting handbook, NRA gun safety rules brochure, Winchester/NRA marksmanship qualification booklet, take a Basics of Shotgun Shooting Student Examination, and receive a course completion certificate.
